چکیده

Neutron diffraction is the central technique of this project since it is an efficient tool to scan the magnetism of matter. It is used here to analyze the peculiar magnetic properties of trilayers of Cr films separated by a thin MgO layer. The anomalies in comparison to isolated Cr films are attributed to a coupling between the magnetic layers through the insulator. This work aims hence at characterizing this effect by observing the influence of various parameters of the system (barrier thickness, temperature, or magnetic field) on the coupling effect. A better understanding of the magnetism of this system and the characterization of the observed effect as a phenomenon of tunnel coupling (whose existence depends on the barrier thickness) should be achieved by analysis of the structural and magnetic characterization experiments. Structure and magnetism of Fe/Si multilayers grown by ion-beam sputtering.

Ion-beam sputtering has been used to prepare Fe/Si multilayers on a variety of substrates and over a wide range of temperatures. Small-angle x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy experiments show that the layers are heavily intermixed although a composition gradient is maintained. When the spacer layer is an amorphous iron silicide, the magnetic properties of the multilayers ar...

Unexpected resonant response in [Fe(001)/Cr(001)]10/MgO(001) multilayers in a magnetic field.

We observed unexpected resonant response in [Fe/Cr]10 multilayers epitaxially grown on MgO(100) substrates which exists only when both ac current and dc magnetic field are simultaneously applied. The magnitude of the resonances is determined by the multilayer magnetization proving their intrinsic character. The reduction of interface epitaxy leads to nonlinear dependence of the magnitude of res...

Magnetic profiles and coupling in Fe/Cr(110) superlattices

In epitaxial Fe/Cr superlattices the coupling between the Fe layers oscillates between antiferromagnetic (AFM) and ferromagnetic as a function of the Cr layer thickness tCr. The period of the oscillation is the same for superlattices grown with (211) and (100) orientations. We measured the coupling of Fe/Cr(110) superlattices consisting of three identical Fe layers. The magnetization curves wer...

Temperature dependence of the magnetic interlayer coupling in Fe/Cr multilayers

Detailed SQUID magnetic measurements were performed in two series of [-Fe3o A/Cr, A] x 10 multilayers, in the temperature range 5-300 K. These series were prepared by sputtering on different substrates: MgO(1 0 0) and Si(1 0 0). The interlayer magnetic coupling strength (J,~_) was obtained from hysteresis cycles measured at each temperature. Our results show that Ji2 versus T behaves according ...

Influence of ferromagnetic substrate on the magnetoresistance of Cr film across a nonmagnetic insulating layer

~5 nm! Cr/(x nm) MgO/Mn0.52Zn0.48Fe2O4 ~MnZn spinel! substrate (1,x,7 nm), as well as ~5 nm! Cr/~7 nm! MgO/glass substrate structures have been grown using molecular beam epitaxy. The influence of the MnZn spinel on the in-plane transport and magnetotransport properties of the Cr layer were studied. The existence of pinholes in the MgO layer was explored by evaluating resistance versus temperat...
